![]() During the covid crisis our self-funded FamilyFood program nearly 200,000 meals, distributed emergency supplies and household goods to over 500 families. ![]() Total (two-way) trade in goods between the United States and Costa Rica was 13.9 billion in 2021, and the United States had a goods trade surplus of 808 million. Our academy operated as a disaster shelter after Hurricane Nate in 2017. The United States is Costa Rica’s largest trading partner, accounting for 38 percent of Costa Rica’s imports and 42 percent of its exports. In addition to our primary focus we are a Costa Rica national disaster relief agency (CRCNE) since 2020. It gives them mental strength to keep pushing even when things are not going their way, this teaches them how to handle things in other areas of their lives outside of the gym. It also helps them to increase their self-confidence and improve their concentration. Therefore, Jiu-Jitsu practice is a Stress release for them. Our students live in extreme poverty conditions, they have complicated psychological-emotional -economic situations at home. Our biggest purpose is focused on prevention, to give kids the opportunities for a better future, to give families the support they need with projects that help improve their life quality. A popular hero Coming from humble beginnings and remaining a low level soldier in the national campaign, Juan Santamaría became a hero who represents the everyday people of Costa Rica. Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Colombia, Comoros, Congo - Brazzaville, Congo - Kinshasa, Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Croatia. We typically have 150+ kids enrolled in our program that train free of charge and have had hundreds through our doors. ![]() Through our work we facilitate the practice of Brazilian JiuJitsu for kids in the community of the Guanacaste Area. Hero Academy is a non-profit 501(c)(3) in the USA and equal Asociation Beneficia in Costa Rica since 2016.
